KATHMANDU, Feb 27: Chief
Secretary, Lilamani Poudyal, and Secretary at the Ministry of Health
and Population, Dr. Pravin Mishra have signed will to donate eyes,
posthumously.
During the programme organized by the Organ Transplant Center,
Bhaktapur, on the occasion of the First Health Service Day, at the
premises of the Ministry of Health and Population, as many as 60 persons
including Chief Secretary Poudyal, Secretary Mishra, RSS correspondent
Bishnu Nepal, and journalist Balaram Pyasi, among others, signed the
will for donating eyes, posthumously.
Organ transplantation in the country was made legal since last year and
as many as 350 people have already signed the will once the Organ
Transplantation Act was brought into effect.
Minister for Health and Population, Rajendra Mahato, had already
declared his intention for organ transplantation and signed the
document.
The Ministry has established a separate organ transplant center in
Bhaktapur after the successful transplantation of kidneys at Bir
Hospital. The centre has started the service and successfully
transplanted the human organs to two people so far.
"Organ transplantation is a sacred work, it could give new life and
exhilaration to us," said Dr. Pukarchandra Shrestha, Chief of the
Department of Kidney Transplantation, Bir Hospital, and Chief of the
Centre. |
