Fourth Kidney transplant at Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences

Kidney transplant was successfully completed for the fourth time on Monday ,October 4,2022 at Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences.A 46 year old woman with kidney failure was donated a kidney by her husband, a 50 year old man.They  are residents of Tanahu.

A team led by Executive Director and Chief Transplant surgeon Dr.Pukar Chandra Shrestha, from Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Center,Bhaktapur came to Pokhara for the transplant .The same team including Senior Consultant urologist Dr.Rakesh K.Verma,Senior Consultant Nephrologist Dr.kalpana k.shrestha,Senior Anaesthesiologist Dr.Niva Shrestha,,Senior urologist Dr.Dipesh Shrestha, Urologist Dr.Ravi Kiran Gautam    assisted in Monday's transplant.

Along with this,two women in Pokhara so far had kidney transplants. Analyzing the data of Nepal, in Kheri, 80 percent of organ donors are women and 80 percent of organ recipients are men.Although the number of transplants in Pokhara is small,the number of recipients and donors is equal .
