World kidney Day 2023 celebration

This year too ,World Kidney Day is being celebrated in Nepal on March 10th , 2023 with various programs.This day is celebrated worldwide on the 2nd Thursday of March every English year. One out of every 10 people gets kidney disease and in view of the increasing prevalence of kidney disease worldwide, kidney day is organized with the aim of making everyone aware of the important measures to identify ,treat and prevent the kidney diseases .World Kidney day was celebrated jointly by Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Center (SDNTC), Nepalese Society Of Organ Transplantation(NESOT) and Swasthiya Abhiyan Nepal (SAN).


This year World kidney day was celebrated at All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) complex ,Satdobato with the slogan  " Preparing for the Unexpected Supporting the Vulnerable".

13th Nepal Transplant Games was also conducted on the same day with the friendly football tournament between the transplantees and doctors, nurses, social workers, Diplomats, journalists etc. This  game aims to raise public awareness that organ transplant recipients can live like other healthy people and they can work completely and efficiently in every field. Kidney walk, organ donation Camp and interaction program were the highlights of the day.


In this program, organ donation was done by 5 distinguished personalities.

Dr.Pukar Chandra Shrestha, Executive Director of this center lead the Kidney walk program organized on World Kidney day.Veteran artists duo Madan Krishna Shrestha and Harivansh Acharya were also present at the transplant sports event, while doctors from various hospitals were also present.Mayor of lalitpur Metropolitan city Mr. Chiribabu Maharjan ,the Chief guest of the day, inaugurated the event.Speaking at the event , he praised 

the campaign conducted by the national transplant center.


Mr.Maharjan also said that such campaigns should be carried out in the future as well  and emphasized that one should have a health check-up from time to time by adopting a healthy lifestyle.

While the problem of kidney and various organ failure is becoming serious  all over the world, it is worthy to celebrate such a day and it is believed that it will increase the public awareness about healthy lifestyle and organ donation among the general public.
