Kidney transplantation of two people at Pokhara Institute Of Health Sciences on Friday, December 30 2022

Two more kidney transplants have been done at Pokhara Institute Of Health Sciences  ( Western Regional Hospital ). The 5th & 6th renal transplants took place in Pokhara on Friday with the technical support of Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Center, Bhaktapur.


According to Dr.Pukar Chandra Shrestha ,Executive  Director of the National Transplant center and Transplant surgeon who led the technical team, a kidney transplant was done on 24 year old Bom bahadur Pun of  Baglung on Friday as the first case. His 50 year old  mother , Kamala Pun donated kidney to him.

Similarly, 23 year old Niraj Shrestha of  Kaski also underwent a kidney transplant on Friday.

His 53 year old father ,Uttam Kumar Shrestha donated a kidney to him.

The health condition of both people who were transplanted on Friday  is now normal .

Health secretary Dev Kumari Guragain had also reached Pokhara on Friday to inspect the kidney transplants being done in Pokhara.

She also consulted with the technical donors and officials about what can be done to make the transplants more sustainable and organized outside the valley.

As part of the government's campaign to make kidney transplant nationwide, kidney transplant is already taking a high jump at Pokhara .The first transplant in Pokhara was done on June 9 with the help of National transplant Center, Bhaktapur .Since then 6 transplants have been successfully completed.

In addition, the transplant center is also preparing to carry out kidney transplant services in Provincial Hospital Surkhet &  Madan Bhandari Institute of Health Sciences,  Hetauda.
